A survey of the embryotoxic effects of TCDD in mammalian species.

چکیده
Only limited data are presently available on the embryotoxic effects of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). This is true for the number of animals used per experimental group, especially in the higher dose range, as well as for the number of different species of experimental animals tested. There has been an understandable reluctance to investigate these highly toxic compounds, because of the hazards of contaminating animal quarters and the risk to personnel. Nevertheless, we feel that the data available allow a rough estimate of the dangers that may be encountered with exposure to such dioxins during pregnancy. The possibility that TCDD might have certain types of embryotoxic effects was realized for the first time when Courtney et al. (1) reported their data on the teratogenic effect of 2,4,5-T. Substances like TCDD have been known for some time (2-4) to be contaminants of chlorinated phenols and derivatives of such compounds and they were thought to be responsible for an intoxication called chloracne (5). Some commercial samples of 2,4,5-T apparently were rather highly contaminated with these extremely toxic substances.

Investigation on the teratogenic and embryotoxic effects of nanozeolite on chick embryos model
Objective(s): In veterinary medicine, zeolites are used as toxin binder in animal feed, ammonia purification of aquatic pools, animal smell and moisture control. This study investigated on the risk assessment of nano zeolite on development of embryonic chicken models, anomalies, tetratogenic and embryotoxic effects. Methods: Eggs (120 = n) were accidentally di...

2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) is a by-product o f t he trichlorophenol (herbicide) production and is also produced through a variety of combustion processes. It appears that TCDD is a ubiquitous chemical, particularly in industrialised countries, and the liver is the target organ of its toxicity. The prominent hepatotoxic effect of TCDD is progressive centrilobular necrosis. Th...

Backgrounds: A straight-forward way to identify whether a drug or environmental chemical can be harmful to unborn baby is to evaluate its effect on laboratory animals. All invivo methods need large number of animal and are therefore time consuming and expensive. However, the thousands of chemicals in need of testing, to reduce the spending of live animals, an assortment of in vitro assays has ...
متن کاملReactive oxygen species generation and use of antioxidants during in vitro maturation of oocytes: a Review
In vitro maturation (IVM) is emerging as a popular technology at the forefront of fertility treatment and preservation. However, standard in vitro culture conditions usually increase reactive oxygen species (ROS), which have been implicated as one of the major causes for reduced embryonic developmental competence. It is well-known that higher than physiological levels of ROS triggers granulosa ...
متن کاملComparative analysis of homology models of the AH receptor ligand binding domain: verification of structure-function predictions by site-directed mutagenesis of a nonfunctional receptor.
The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) is a ligand-dependent transcription factor that mediates the biological and toxic effects of a wide variety of structurally diverse chemicals, including the toxic environmental contaminant 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). While significant interspecies differences in AHR ligand binding specificity, selectivity, and response have been observed, the ...
